 |
What Have We Done:
One of the areas in which we have all expressed a desire to see is
the growth in children's ministry. This prayer and desire has been
answered in a very real way. We have seen a significant increase in
both our children's Sunday school classes on at our midweek
children's program KIDZONE. As a result of this ministry the church
has received 3 families as members and active worship attendees
with their children. We have also seen a number of new young
families participate in our children's program as well as reaching out
to our boy- scouts families and preschool families.
None of this could not be possible without the faithful servant
leadership of both Jane Mohr and Dolores Thompson. These two
women of God have felt children to be a personal mission to which
God has called them to. They are tremendously dedicated,creative
and committed to sharing the message of Jesus Christ with the
children of our community. I want to personally thank them for the
endless hours they have dedicated to this ministry.I also want to
thank people like Berta McCoy who ever since she has joined our
congregation has blessed us with her creative gifts and her
technological service. Many thanks as well to Charlene Van Horn for
her faithfulness in keeping our church curriculum in check for all of
us.
What's Next:
Our greatest challenge in the area of Children's Ministry is volunteer
recruitment. We are in need of teachers and people to assist with
preparation and even nursery assistance, because our programs
are growing and there is a greater need for more adults to be with
the children. We need people who are willing to relieve the current
teachers for a couple of Sundays each month so that they can
receive spiritual nourishment by attending a Sunday School
class or a Wednesday night Bible Study. Although the number of
children present at our Sunday worship service has increased by
twice its size, I would like to see more participation of children in our
worship service. I am thankful that Marie Burnison has heard my cry
and has begun to use them as acolytes and they are doing a
wonderful job. However, I would like to see more children
participating in singing, reading the Scriptures and even collecting
the offering. We have to present to young: families coming to visit
that we are holistic community where the entire family is equally
valuable and important.
Currently we have 25 children that are active in our children's
ministry program and my prayer and desire is to increase this
number to 40. This creates a challenge for space, and the Council
on Ministries will be looking at this issue over the next year.
